Heart 2 Heart ~Let’s Get Inky

Welcome to our first June Challenge!!

For this challenge we want you to use inks to make a background, color items or however you choose to use your inks. Our only requirement is you must use at least one Close to My Heart product. I went with using my Oxide inks.

I used my oxide inks to create the backgrounds of each of these cards.

This was the first one I created. I used one of the stencils from the Stencil Pack 3. I sponged Chipped Sapphire ink onto the Daisy White Cardstock. Then using the Stitched Rectangle Thin cuts. I matted the background on black cardstock. I then used the Stitched Fancy Brackets for the background. Using the sapphire Shimmer Brush to splatter behind the sentiment. The sentiment is from the My Dad Rocks Stamp Set. I used the Black Ore Paper for the strip behind the sentiment. The blue dots are from my stash.

For this card I used a combination of oxide inks ~ Speckled Egg, Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean, and Wilted Violet. After blending the colors, I used a piece of White Daisy that was cut using one of the Fancy Borders Thin Cuts. Using this cut cardstock I used as a mask to create the waves. I used white pigment ink and sponged the waves. I used the 3″ circle thin cut for the sentiment. I used my markers to color in the fish. The dots are also from my stash.

For this one, I created my own stencil with my Cricut. I sponged Mustard Seed, Candy Apple, Faded Jeans and Rustic Wilderness Oxide inks. I used the Square Stitched Thin Cuts. I added a bit of red to the hearts using Carnation Red Liquid Pearls.

Now it is your time to create something and link it to the HEART 2 HEART Challenge. Did you know you can link your projects from Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Flickr, and many other platforms using the url link to your design. You have until JUNE 30th, 2021 to participate in this challenge. Make sure you include at least one Close to My Heart product. We love to see your inspirations!!

Rad Dad ~ Masculine Themed Blog Hop

Welcome to the Rad Dad ~ Masculine Themed Blog Hop!!!

You will be hopping with the same talented consultants who bring you the Stamp of the Month blog hop.  For this hop we are featuring artwork which showcases the awesome Rad Dad stamp or masculine themed art work.

If you are just arriving here from MELISSA ROBINSONS Blog, or just starting at my blog then you are on the right track ~ Welcome!  The blog hop is a great big circle, so you can start here and work your way around. If you get lost along the way, you can find the complete list of participating  consultants on Melinda’s blog HERE.   For this hop we have about 10 consultants participating and you are going to see some fabulous artwork.

I needed to create a couple of Father’s day cards and I really like the Dad you’re rad saying so I wanted to focus on that.  The next thing that came to mind was music and a guitar so that is the way I went.  I used a couple of guitars that are part of my Cricut subscription.

I used my Basic Star Thin Cuts to crate a mask so I could sponge the Crystal Blue stars.

I cut the guitar using Pewter, Sapphire, Chrystal Blue and Black cardstock.  I then added a little of my Clear Shimmer Brush to the Crystal Blue on the guitar. I also added a couple of the Black Dots. Here is a close up.

I then decided to do one with a bit more contrast and added Ruby.

I used a different guitar but followed the same design idea.  I used Linen, Kraft, Sapphire and Black for the guitar.  I did use the Ruby pattern paper from the fundamentals with the diagonal as the base layer, however, it is hard to see in the photo.

As you can see I used the Shimmer Brush again to add so sparkle to the guitar.  For both cards I did use the Rad Dad Stamp set which is only being offered now until the end of June so be sure to purchase yours today!

Your next stop is along this hop is MELINDA EVERITT’S Blog, so hop on over and see what wonderful creations she has for you today.

Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to all those dads and father figures in your life.  Every year we have been making an hand-print or footprint artwork for my husband.  Here is this year’s creation

I used my Cricut to cut the letters out in vinyl.

I also made a this cute bear card for him.

I used the Rustic Home Fundamentals with Cocoa cardstock.  I used brown momento ink to stamp the bear and then watercolored the bear. The bear is from the Jack Cardmaking Stamp Set.  I really love this new blue burlap ribbon.

Happy Father’s Day!

For the past three years for Father’s Day,  I have assisted my son in creating a canvas which features his hand prints and a fun saying for his dad.  Here are the three I have done in the past.Father's day gifts ~ kids handprint gifts ~ catscrapbooking.com ca

So I could not drop the ball this year.  I saw a design on Pinterest using a footprint incorporated into a guitar. Since Mike is a drummer and can play guitar, I knew this would be perfect.  So here is our version:

Father's Day ~ dad you rock ~ kids footprint ~ fathers day gift ~ catscrapbooking.comI used my Silhouette to cut the guitar strings, notes and Dad you Rock using vinyl.  I am very happy the way this turned out.  I am fairly certain my husband will feel the same.  Gavin was happy with the way it looks and can’t wait to say “surprise”.

Technique Blog Hop ~ Call for Backup

Welcome to the Technique Blog Hop!

This month we are featuring a technique called ~ Call for Backup which can be found on page 180 of the Annual Inspirations Idea book.  This technique is real simple as anytime you use a punch or even use a cricut to cut out a pattern you can back it with a different color, shimmer trim or pattern paper. This month we have 10 consultants featuring artwork using this technique so you will definitely be inspired.  If you just hopped onto my blog or arrived from WENDY KESSLER’s Blog then you are in the right place.  This blog hop is a great big circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork incorporating this technique.

I needed to create a father’s day card for my dad so I though I would incorporate this technique into my card. I love the new The Best Dad Ever A1173 stamp set and knew it would be perfect with the Jackson paper pack.

Father’s Day Frame

Okay, I am taking another little break from my major undertaking of house cleaning for our garage sale.  I have basically completed my craft room, all the baby stuff and the kitchen.   I now only have a few more rooms to go….

Since Father’s day is going to be sneaking up on us pretty quickly I actually got a jump on things this year.  I had purchased the Sizzix accordion frame back in November and of course it has just sat on the shelf.  I decided it was time to use it or lose it so to speak.  I realized it would work very well as a Father’s Day gift.

Father's day frame front ~catscrapbooking.com

This is what it will look like when you give it to your father.  You will pull the twine on the right side and it will open to be a cool stand alone element which will fit a 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 inch photo.  You dad/father can then proudly display this on their desk.

Father's day frame ~catscrapbooking.com

Here is a close up of two of the panels to show the stamping which crated a unique patten paper.

Father's day frame detail

To create this look I used the tools from the You’re the Best stamp set C1571 and used second generation stamping with Chocolate ink on Colonial white paper.  If you have never heard of second generation stamping what you do is ink up you stamp like you would normally do then stamp it the first time on a scratch sheet of paper and then stamp it a second time on your actual paper.   The effect is a softer more subtle stamped image.

For this project I used my Silhouette to cut the majority of the images.  I did use the Cricut to cut the banners on the cover.

Products used for this project:

  • Timberline paper pack X1782B
  • Twilight cardstock X5666
  • Colonial White cardstock 1388
  • Chocolate cardstock  X5643
  • Brown and Tan Glitter Paper Z1830
  • Chocolate Ink Z2111
  • Twilight Ink Z2160
  • You’re the Best Stamp set C1571
  • Baker’s twine
  • Brown twine (my stash)

Okay back to my Spring Cleaning….

Happy Crafting!
