Welcome to the Everything ABC Blog Hop!

ABC's Blog HopFor this hop we will be featuring the letter “Z”.  This may be the name of a paper, a stamp set or an embellishment.  Whatever the crafter has chosen as their “Z” element will be featured in their post.

If you have just hopped onto my blog, welcome!  If you just hopped here from DIANA SAUNDERS’ Blog then you are in the right place.   The blog hop is a great big circle, so you can start here and work your way around.  If you get lost along the way, you can find the complete list of participating  consultants at the bottom of this post.

The letter “Z” can also be a difficult letter to come up with ideas for there is always the ZipStrips at the top of the Close to My Heart paper.  But I thought I remembered a fancy fold card that started with “Z” so I went to my Pinterest  boards and there it was…..Upright Z Fold card.  So that is what I set out to make. Here is the final product then I will walk you through the steps.

Upright Z Fold front ~ White Pines ~ ABC's Z ~ CatScrapbooking.com This is what is looks like from the front. Now let me show you how it was made.Upright Z-fold card Step 1 ~ ABC's Z ~ CatScrapbooking.comStarting with an 11″x 4 1/4″ piece of paper which will be you card base and your final card will be 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ when folded flat. Score along horizontal edge at 2 3/4″ and at 5 1/2″.
Upright Z-fold card Step 2 ~ ABC's Z ~ White Pines ~ CatScrapbooking.comThen you will adhere your pattern paper to the top and bottom of the card.  You can use the same or mix up the paper.  The bottom measurement is 4 ” x 2 1/2″ and the top is 4″x 5 1/4″ (sorry I made a mistake on the text in the photo).Upright Z Fold Step 3 ~ White Pines ~ ABC's ~ CatScrapbooking.comZI cut the Holly Border #m418E9A from the Artisty cartridge cut at 1.01″ high by 3.62″ high.  I cut this three times two Fern and one in Chocolate.  The two fern ones I trimmed the fern looking leaves leaving the holly leaves and balls. In the photo above I am using the cocoa and the first fern cut.Upright Z Fold Step 4 ~ White Pines ~ ABC's Z ~ CatScrapbooking.comHere I am attaching the second Fern holly but I am only attaching it at the top.  This will allow me to slide the card front between the two Fern cuts and help hold the card in the Upright Z.  I added some gems.Upright Z Fold Step 5 ~ White Pines ~ ABC's Z ~ CatScrapbooking.com  I then attached the front panel which is cut at 3 1/4″ x 4″ and the insert which I embossed is cut at 3″ x 3 3/4″.Upright Z Fold side ~ White Pines ~ ABC's Z ~ CatScrapbook.comHere is the side view of the completed card.

Santa Gift Card Holders

I decided to make my life a little easier this year with gift giving. All of family lives out of state so every year we need to ship gifts. My nieces and nephews for one of my brothers are getting to the age where finding the perfect gift is getting harder. So I decided they will have a gift card Christmas. Shipping will be a lot less. But of course I need to design something to put them in. I had seen some Santa belt style gift card holders on Pinterest. I decided to design my own.

Santa Gift Holder with tag ~ CatScrapbooking.comI used Artfully Sent envelope and to make the buckle I used Artbooking with a little welding with a basic shape. Here is the design space link to make the Gift Card holder. I grabbed a tag I had made prior which is using a retired Stamp of the Month Home for the Holiday S1410. I have to admit when I planned to make these I intended to use White Pines however I grabbed Ruby so I went with Yuletide.

Santa Gift Card Holder ~ CatScrapbooking.comI really love the way these turned out and it was so simple!!

I added some sparkle with the glitter paper and a bit of dimension with the Fern twine.  I then added the touch of blue by watercoloring two of the candies. Since the letter “V” is as challenging a “U” before it when it come to crafting.  I decided to look at my Cricut Cartidges again.  Well I was VERY VICTORIOUS as I was working on a project with the Nevermore paper pack and I was needing some Halloween cuts.  Guess what is on page 71 of the Artbooking booklet??? The letter “V” and the five perfect cuts.  I purchased these BOO letters last year but never got around to completing them, so I was determined to do it this year.

I have been wanting to make one of those fabulous wreaths made out of rolled flowers.  When I saw the colors in the Sangria paper pack X7199B.  I knew it was the right one.  So I rolled like 90 flowers to create this wreath.Sangria ~ flower wreath ~ catscrapbooking.comThe wreath is 13″ foam which I wrapped in burlap so if any spots showed through it would be burlap and not white. I decided since these were fall colors I would add a few leaves.

Sangria ~ Flower Wreath detail 2 ~ catscrapbooking.com

Sangria ~ Flower Wreath detail 3 ~ catscrapbooking.comI actually used three different flowers in three different sizes.  For those of you with a Cricut Explore I used #m44903, #m47643 and #m435f5 all of which are from the Art Philosophy cartridge.  I sized them at 4″, 4.4″ and 4.8″.  For the leaves I used #m473AB from Artbooking (2.8″ high and 2.4″ high), #m58a300 (3.2″ high and 2.4″ high) & #m411c98 (2.19″ high and 2.59″ high) are from Artistry and #m42812 (2.76″ high & 2.2″ high) from Artiste.   I used pearl straight pins to secure the flowers to and leaves to the wreath.

Here is the list of papers used:

  • Sangria paper pack X7199B
  • Cardstock ~ Eggplant, Poppy, Pomegranate, Colonial White, Fern, Desert Sands, Cocoa, and Champange

Preschool Book

My son started preschool last year only going two days a week. The school he goes to uses Tools of the Mind as their curriculum. I was so blown away by this program and it was great seeing the growth over the school year. I know a lot of parents are cautious to send their child to one, but a Steiner Preschool can be absolutely fantastic for both of a child and a parent. He came home most of the days with is play plan, science eyes and artwork. I really wanted to be able to preserve this for him and keep the collection in an organized way. So I decided to make it into a book. The pages varied in sizes so I had to find a way to make it all work. Since the majority of the preschool material was 5 1/5 x 8 I decide I would scan or photograph the large items and reduce them in size to make a 6 x 9 finished bound book.

Zoe ~ Artbooking ~ School ~ Catscrapbooking

I decided to use Zoe as my paper pack for the cover. I mixed it with pomegranate and honey cardstock. I used my Artbooking cartrige to cut the apple and photos mat. The new Jennifer’s Hand B1484 alphabet stamp set with Slate ink. I did use my black journaling pen to trace the number to make them stand out a bit.Zoe ~ School ~ catscrapbooking.comOn the inside of the cover I used his class photo and name plate from school. He would come in every morning and find the one with his name on it and then put it on a board depending on the answer to the question of the day.

Preschool book dividers -play plans ~catscrapbooking.com

The play plans are the key to getting them to start writing their names and drawing a picture of themselves. The will also write their plan for the center they are going to. For this divider I just wanted to use the stick figure since he started drawing a bit more of one by the end of the year. The title was cut using Artistry and stick figure is a SVG file with my Silhouette.

Preschool book ~ science eyes ~ catscrapbookingThis section did not start until the spring. They would look at an object and describe it to their friend and then draw it. He only brought home a few but I wanted to preserve these as well. The title was cut using Artistry and microscope and atom are SVG files with my Silhouette.Preschool book ~ artwork ~ catscrapbooking.com

This was the last section and since most of the artwork was small or too big I just photographed it all and will include a photo of the pieces along with a few of the original artwork. The title was cut using Artistry and the pallet and brush are SVG files with my Silhouette.
