Construction Layout #2

So I posted two days ago that I found some time to scrapboook.  I tackled my son’s second birthday which was a construction party.  Here is the second layout.

For this layout I combined a couple of paper packs ~ Dreamin’ Big, Whimsy Fundamentals and Magical.

Construction Birthday Layout

It has been a while since I have taken the time to scrapbook. I knew I needed to take some time and do what I truly love to do.  So I made some time this week to works on some layouts.  One of the layouts I decided to tackle one particular layout…. my son’s second birthday.  I have put off these layouts as I wanted them to be perfect and I had collected some construction theme embellishments and wanted to make sure to incorporate all of it. I decided to just go for it!!

Here is my first layout:

I was able to incorporate the invitation I made that year too.  It felt really good to get these layouts completed as it gets me one step closer to completing the year 2013.

Construction Birthday Party

A few weeks ago I posted the penny slider invitations I designed for my son’s second birthday.  If you missed those you can see it here.  I choose the construction theme since Gavin loves trucks.  Once he learned the word truck there was no stopping him.  He will point out every truck he sees from sun up to sun down.  It does not help that our neighbor has several construction vehicles in his yard which Gavin loves to point out and talk about.  Well the party was this weekend and it was a big success.

We asked our neighbor with the construction trucks if he would bringing two of his trucks and park them in our yard for the party.  He brought over a backhoe loader and a dump truck.  Gavin was so excited the next morning when he saw them.  When ever he is excited about seeing a big truck he always says “woooh truck”; well as you can imagine that phrase was repeated several times that morning.

Everything was yellow, black and white.  I was able to find fun decorations which I could embellish  at Oriental Trading company and Party City. I was able to find small construction hats which the kids could decorate to wear.  There was a yellow pennant banner I added vinyl cut outs to using my silhouette.   I found a cute dump truck cookie cutter to make sugar cookies.

For his cake I decided to make cupcakes which I then decorated with as a cake.  Heath bar crumbles made excellent gravel and crushed Oreos made for nice piles of dirt.

I then designed the party favor boxes using Close to My Heart papers and stamp sets – Little Builders and Fast and Furious.

For the thank you cards, I designed a similar card to the invitations but not as elaborate.

Gavin's Thank you Cards

It was really a lot of fun planning this party and Gavin really seemed to enjoy himself and the theme which made it all worth while.
