September Stamp of the Month

Here is another creation with the September Stamp of the Month.

September 2014 SOTM

I designed this card which I though would work well for a special occasion or anniversary.  I realized there are quite a few anniversaries in my family this time of year and I am in need of restocking my card stash.

SOTM 09-14 Family is Forever Card I wanted to let you know about CTMH’s new All-Purpose Mat Z2045.  I have to admit I was very exited initially about this mat but when it came I was not  as sure about it.  I was thinking it would be thick and solid sort of like the Versa Mat but larger.  Well the All-Purpose Mat came rolled up and was very thin.  One side was grippy and the other side is a dull finish – I was a bit perplexed how was I suppose to use this mat.  I decided to give it a go as CTMH would not steer me wrong(check out the video below as it will help explain about the mat).  Once I started using it all I can say is WOW!!! I really love it.  I used the dull/non glossy side to place the hearts I was heat embossing.  It was awesome as I could use a stylet to hold the heart then applied the heat while it is on the mat.  Yes you read that correctly you can apply the heat directly to the mat and it does not damage anything!  I have also used the glossy side which is sort of sticky to hold small items so they don’t get lost all over my work space.

Items used for this card:

  • Embossing Folder ~ Floral Z1994
  • Cardstock ~ Whisper, Thistle, Lagoon & Daisy White
  • Embellishments ~ Thistle Diagonal Striped ribbon Z1990, Purple Glitter Gems Z1936, Silver Shimmer Trim Z1799
  • All-Purpose Mat Z2045

ABC's Blog Hop

Welcome to the Everything ABC’s Blog Hop!

For this hop we will be featuring the letter “Q”.  This may be the name of a paper, a stamp set or an embellishment.  Whatever the crafter has chosen as their “Q” element will be featured in their post.

If you have just hopped onto my blog, please start at the beginning at LINDA’S BLOG ~ SCRAPPY THERAPY

If you just arrived from LINDA’S BLOG then you are on the right track.

I chose quilling as my “Q” element.  If you have never tried quilling it is really cool and fun to do.  I will admit it is a bit tedious, but the end result is worth it.  I love the Close to My Heart Quilling tool as it is double sided with a small and larger end.   I cut my strips of paper to 1/8th inch in width .  The lengths of paper will vary depending on what size quill shape you want to make.

Quilled Card_ABCs Q

Here is a close up of the quilling.  When using our cardstock you will have to ink the edges as the white core will show through otherwise.

Quilled Card_detail

I used the new Whimsy Fundamentals paper pack for the background of the card.  I love these papers as they provide such great texture.  I also used the new Thistle cardstock along with Topiary and Crystal Blue.  The Stamp set used is the Happy Couple D1539 with Crystal Blue ink.  For embellishments I used the Topiary Chevron ribbon and the Clear Sparkle assortment.  Now I know you are saying right now there are only colored sparkles on this card.  Well I have a great solution for you when you want a particular color sparkle is you can use the new ShinHan Twin Touch Markers to color your clear sparkles and make them any color you wish!!  Isn’t this awesome?

Coloring sparkles

I am totally hooked on this new finding.  And they dry super quick.

Scardy Cat Waterfall Card

I have been busy getting ready for the Open House/Crop which is in less than two weeks.  It is going to be a great on so if you are in the Spokane Area you will want to make sure you come!  It will be August 16th at the North Spokane Library.  If you want to come to the crop you will need to RSVP to me to save your spot.

Here ia a card I designed using some of the Halloween product.  I have always loved the Waterfall style cards and it was one of the first fancy style cards I learned to make when I started making cards.  I decided it was time pull out this technique as it would work wonderfully with the adorable Trick or Treats Sweets B1460 .

Halloween waterfall card

I actually used two different sizes when I was designing the waterfall aspect. the one on the left is 1 3/4 inches wide while the one on the right is 2 inches wide.  It does effect the scoring when you change the width as you are working with smaller squares.

Halloween waterfall card_2

To get the ink to pop on the black cardstock you will want to use your pigment inks.  I used Frightfully Fun B1453 stamp set with all the great halloween expressions.

Spring time in Spokane WA means lots of wind which means good kite flying.  I have been trying to get my son to hold on to the kite long enough for me to take a few photos to scrapbook but that has yet to happen.  He will hold the kite for a couple of seconds then let it go and watches mommy chase after the kite.  So even thought I can’t scrapbook kite flying I created a fun kite card for my “K” element.

Windy Days ~ catscrapbooking.comThe kit was easy to create by taking a square and folding it to look like a kite.  I used the Windy Day stamp set for the cloud and sentiment.

Supplies used for this card:

  • Windy Day stamp set
  • Ink ~ Sky
  • Cardstock ~ Cashmere, Colonial white
  • Paper Pack ~ Balloon Ride
  • Bakers twine

Color dare #90

Last week I entered Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge for the first time.  It was so much fun I knew I wanted to give it another try so here goes.  This week the color challenge is to use Outdoor Denim, Indian Corn Blue, Pacifica and Honey.

Color Dare #90

So here is what I was inspired to create…

Color Dare #90 arrows

For this card I used pattern 28 from the Make it from Your Heart Volume 2.   I used the Jute ribbon for the first time.  I love the look but have wondered how to deal with the ends as they seem to fray.  I decided to apply liquid glass in a line on what would be the backside.  Just before it dried completely I cut the ribbon so there was liquid glass on either side of the cut lines.   This resulted in a clean cut and no fraying!  I also used my pigment inks in the Outdoor Denim, Indian Corn Blue, Pacifica, and Honey to change things up a little and because they are a little easier to use when adding multiple colors to a stamp.

Close to My Heart products used:

  • Cardstock ~ Kraft, Colonial White, Honey, Indian Corn Blue, and Outdoor Denim
  • Inks ~ Adventure Pigment inks and Enchantment Pigment inks
  • Stamp Sets ~ Holiday Tags, Flight of Arrows
  • Embellishments ~ Green and Blue Epoxy Bubbles, Jute Ribbon

So the first this that popped into my head when thinking about what I wanted to design for this hop was HEXAGON.   I just love seeing hexagons in layouts and on cards.  I have been seeing a lot of hexagon overlays being used for cards so I decided to make my own.  I used my Silhouette to create the white overlay.  Then I needed to pick the colors or paper pack and since Lollydoodle makes me so HAPPY, I decided it would be perfect!

ABC's Hexagon Card
While I was working on my design for this blog hop I was inspired by Color My Heart Color Dare to create one for this weeks color dare.  This is my first version for Color Dare #88 but my actual submission can be found here.

Color Dare #89

I decided to try something new today.   I have wanting to try some other challenges out there and one I have been watching is Color Dare.  So today I decided it was time and took on Color Dare #89 which is using Juniper, Sorbet and Creme Brulee.

color dare #89

I was actually working on a project for my ABC’s Blog hop that will be happening on Saturday but I was inspire by these color choices.  Here is what I created:

Color Dare 89 - Hexagon

For this card I created a cut file on my Silhouette using the hexagons and had it cut in white.  I then cut individual hexagons.  I used the Juniper Washi tape to cover two white hexagons.  I also used the Damask embossing folder on the Sorbet hexagons then sanded them to expose the white core.

Close to My Heart products used:

  • Cardstock: Daisy White, Creme Brulee, Sorbet
  • Paper Packs: Lollydoodle
  • Ink: Creme Brulee, Sorbet
  • Embelishments: Aqua Dots
  • Stamp Set: Honeycomb

Be sure to check back on Saturday to see some other designs using hexagons.
