ABC’s Blog Hop ~ C

Welcome to the Everything ABC’s Blog hop!

ABC's Blog HopFor this hop we will be featuring the letter “C”.  This may be the name of a paper, a stamp set or an embellishment.  Whatever the crafter has chosen as their “C” element will be featured in their post.

If you have just hopped onto my blog, please start at the beginning at LINDA’S BLOG ~ SCRAPPY THERAPY .  If you just came from Linda’s Blog then you are in the right place.

For my “C” I chose my Cricut and Disney’s Cars Cartridge.  I have been working on my son room since we moved.  He is all boy and loves all cars, trucks and trains.  So I have been working on one wall at a time but I have been cutting vinyl vehicles to decorate his room.  I still had one wall left to decorate.  I have cut all the previous vehicles with my Silhouette but since I got the Cricut Explore I decided to try cutting vinyl with it.  Well it worked like a gem and I got carried away.

Cars Collage ~

It was really a lot of fun putting these together albeit a little tedious.  There were a lot of layers to some of the designs.  Here is a close up to two of the characters.

Hopscotch Workshop

I have a special workshop that I am offering to you.  It was designed by a very talented Close to My Heart consultant, Susan Williams.  She has outdone herself with this workshop!! You will complete FOUR two page layout and TWELVE cards!! Wow!  It uses flip flaps, twine, shimmer trim, Hopscotch complements and paper pack.

I have assembled the layouts and have photos below of how I put them together.  The only major change from her designs is how I plan to use the Flip Flaps.   She designed the three of the layouts to use flip-flap which she adheres directly to you layout.  I like to use page protectors so I usually adhere them on the page protector.  So in the following photos you will see my version of her layout and the flip flaps are just placed on the layout and not adhered yet (that is why you see that white strip behind the flip flaps).

Susan Williams Layout #1

This layout used two flip flaps on the left and three flip flaps on the right.

Susan Williams Layout #2

Valentine’s Wreath

I think this is the first year I have been so prepared for Valentines or at least started early enough to make some fun things for Valentines.  I have to be honest I was not a big Valentine’s lover but this year I have been having fun making some festive decorations and valentines.  Today I wanted to share with you a wreath I designed using Heartstrings paper pack.  This is a Valentine’s themed paper but it really can be used for other occasions as well, I promise to show you more layouts using this paper pack in a non-valentines way in the near future.

Heartstrings Heart Wreath ~ Valentines ~ Catscrapbooking.comTo create this wreath I used my Cricut Explore and the Artiste Cartridge.  I really like using the design studio to see how the hearts would look prior to actually cutting them out.  It really helped with the sizing.  I used the hearts found on pages 49, 51 & 66.  I did tweak the sizing of a couple of the hearts by unlocking the size ratio.

Items used to create:

  • Heartstrings Paper Pack X7193B
  • Pixie Extra Thick Twine Z3035
  • Stuck on You Puffies Z3037
  • Glitter Paper Pink Z1922, Teal Z1991, & Black and Gray Z1829

Valenties Glass Block

I received a tip from some fellow crafters that some of the holiday glass blocks at Lowe’s were on sale for $1 the beginning of January.  Thankfully some of them posted their receipts so I was able to show this and get my Lowe’s to price match.  (I will admit it was not the easiest task because it really depends on who you talk to.  I talked to 5 different Lowe’s employees and only two said it was possible.) Any way I was able to score 10 of these!!!

Since then I have been looking on Pinterest to see what my first glass block project was going to be.  I decided on Valentines, since Feb 14th is just around the corner.

Valentine's BlockI have been having a lot of fun with vinyl and my new Cricut Explore!! For this project used the Artfully Sent Cricut cartridge.  I used the pocket card image on pg 30 Love Life.  I modified it in the design studio enlarging and rotating the heart.  I also added the “be mine”.  I really love the way this turned out.  I filled it with two of the larger bags of sweethearts.

Cleaning your Cricut Mats

I thought I would share with you my experience cleaning my Circut mats.  I actually use Cricut for both my Silhouette and my Cricut.  They work for both machines an the Cricut mats are cheeper than the Silhouette ones.  When using them with my Silhouette I do have to line the paper up differently all the way to the top and far right edge covering up the numbers on the ruler part.  Anyway I have over 10 mats that were not holding my paper well any more so I decided it would be time to see if I could revive these mats.  I have seen a lot of videos and tips on how to clean them from just soap an water to brake cleaner.  I decided to use just soap (Dawn) and water.  This seemed to work for some of the dirt and debris, so I decided to use a magic clean eraser to hope with some of the stubborn stuff.  Well that was the trick to removing the dirt and debris that just soap an water could not get.  Some of my mats had seen a lot of action so once thy dried the did regain some of there sticky need but will need a little help. However, with the mats which were not to overused and did not require a lot of scrubbing with the magic eraser were noticeable more sticky again once they dried. For that mats which need a little more sticky I will used 2 way Zig glue to give them a little added tackiness.

Zig 2 way glue

Here is a before and after photo of one of the mats I cleaned.

After Cleaning

You can see a noticeable improvement to the mat and for this mat the stickiness returned.  You can still see the hexagon cuts on the map as those are due to my Silhouette which seems to cut a bit deeper on the mat than my Cricut.  I have to admit I was spectacle on the results before I tried it, but now I am so happy I took the time to clean these.  They are by no means brand new again but they function a whole lot better than they were prior to my cleaning.

I hope you find this information useful.

Welcome to the Technique Blog Hop!

Charmed, I'm Sure

This month there are 12 consultants featuring the technique ~ Charmed, I’m Sure!  This technique is featured on page 133 of the Annual Inspirations Idea Book.  We tend to get caught up in only seeing things for there intended use and forget to think outside the box so to speak.  Well charms are fantastic and they can be used to dress up you cards or layouts as well as jewelry.  This blog hop is a great big circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork incorporating this technique.  If you are coming from MELISSA ROBINSON’S Blog, you are on the right track!

For this hop I decide to use the new National Papercrafting promotion  ~ Year >> Noted paper pack to create a layout and added a couple of charms to add that extra bling.

Year Noted, CharmedHere are some close ups of the charms.  They are so easy to use with the new fabulous Flaxen Extra Thick Twine.
