Retiring in 2014

Well with everyone gearing up for their Black Friday deals I thought I would let you know that Close to My Heart has put out their retiring list.  As you know with every new idea book we must say goodbye to some of the products we love to make way for the new ones.  This year CTMH has added a link on our websites which show you all the items which will retire with the launch of the Spring/Sumer 2014 idea book.  Take a look and make a list to give to your love ones as ideas to purchase for you for Christmas.  Just click on this LINK to go directly to that list.

I was able to go to the Creative Keepsakes  Convention in Bellevue WA a couple weeks ago although it was only for a couple hours as we were headed to Portland for the regional MOMS Club luncheon.  It was great to be back there and see all the creative ideas they had.  One of the venders had these adorable hot chocolate holders which were mugs and they had a Santa, scarecrow and Frankenstein.   I thought this would be a cute idea for teacher gifts or just a little gift for someone on your holiday list.  So I decided I would host a Crafty Chicks for our MOMS Club and let our members make them.  I came home and got to work on the design.  I was able to modify a mug that I found on the internet.  I then went to my Silhouette to design it and Santa.

Here is the finished product ~ isn’t it adorable?

I hope this will be a hit with the moms in the club as I know I think it is just so precious.

ABC Blog Hop ~ W

Welcome to the Everything ABC’s Blog Hop!

For this hop we will be featuring the letter “W”.  This may be the name

of a paper, a stamp set or an embellishment.  Whatever the crafter has

chosen as their  element will be featured in their post.

If you came from LINDA NORMAN ~ Scrappy Therapy  then you’re on the right track!

The first thing that came to my mind for ‘W” was winter.  What better way to show winter than to use our exclusive hostess rewards stamp set, Wintery Wishes.
If you have not seen it yet it is adorable with penguins or as my two year old says “peeking”.  One could stretch the “W” theme to include the wash.  Ok so I am sure your are really wondering what I have been up to…. have you heard of using dryer sheets on your card? Well since after you wash you clothes you then put them in the dryer and most likely use a dryer sheet.  Well that dryer sheet can create a wonderful card as you can see.

Wintry Wishes sparkle_

Yes I dis say dryer sheet- when I first heard of this I instantly wanted to learn about how it was done.  So I googled it and found a couple you tube videos showing cards.  If you are looking at my card the background behind the penguin has the dryer sheet over it.  The dryer sheet helps to collect the fine diamond glitter and give it that sparkle.  I chose Indian Corn Blue as the accent color which is my favorite blue.  To add a little pop I used some sparkles and my glitter pen which enabled me to add a bit more bling.

Your next stop will be JENNY GILBERT of Jen’s Creative Classroom.  I am sure you will enjoy what wonderful item she has created.

Fall Harvest

The other day we were brain storming a cute fall/thanksgiving craft we could do at out MOMS Club monthly meeting.  Of course we were searching Pinterest as this is a great resource to help with creative ideas among other things.  Well we keep seeing these adorable paper pumpkins and decided this would be perfect.  So I cam home and got to work.

Paper Pumpkins

These are really simple to make.  I cut strips of paper 1″ x 8 1/2″ for the large one, 1″ x 7″ for the medium one and 1″ x 6″ for the small one.  The larger two pumpkins i used twelve strips and with the small pumpkin I used ten.  To add a bit of dimension I ran the strips through my Cuttle Bug with different embossing folders.  I used a Crop-a-dile to punch holes in the ends of the strips and secured them with a brad at each end.  The leaves  I cut using my Silhouette and the Fall Harvest stamp set.  The tendrils are 1/4″ x 12″ strips of paper that are curled.

Frosty the Lighted Snowman

I know it is not Thanksgiving yet, but I am getting excited for the holidays.  I have been able to create a few things so far this year.  I hope this trend continues and I will share them with you as I go.

I have always loved glass blocks, it probably stems from my love of Architecture and Interior Design.  Did you know my undergraduate degree is in Interior Design?  Well now you do.  I have to admit I have not worked in this field for close to twenty years but it was my degree.  Anyway back to glass blocks…. I have been seeing all the ones people have put lights into and used vinyl on them to make great home decor items.  Well this past weekend I was able to go to a Craft Warehouse for the first time.  I loved it as there were so many great craft items on display of what you could make.  One of the things they had were glass blocks which has a plastic bottom which would allow you to fill the inside ~ ingenious!!! Here is my creation:

Snowman glass block_1

I the glass block would work perfectly as a snowman. I designed my own face  and cut it on vinyl using my Silhouette.  I saw an adorable felt hat there but it was too small so I made my own.  I found a how to on the web and modified the directions so mine would be a little smaller.

I also had just seen the CTMH video Craft your Curls which I posted last week about using fabric to create flowers.  I told you I would post something I designed soon and check out my cool flower using the Sparkle and Shine textiles.  I only used two layers to create my flower as the video shows three.

I already know where I am going to use my first one.  I am going to leave you hanging on that thought but I will be posting it on my blog when it is done so stay tuned.  In the mean time be sure to look at this video!!!
