My Layout Challenge #10

Well I almost thought I was not going to make it this week.  I was a busy week and every opportunity I had to work on my layout was met with a bit of creative block.  But I had a break through and was able to complete this layout.

Regatta ~ Happy place ~ CatScrapbooking.comThis was the last layout of our rained out Florida trip from two years ago.  This day was our only sunny day which was our first official day, since we arrive a day late due to missed connections – a whole other story….

Using Ink to stamp

I was playing around in my craft room.  I have seen on Pinterest some cool cards using a variety of techniques to apply ink.  I wanted to try some.  I have to apologize that I did not think about taking photos of the process, I guess I was just in a groove.

Sapphire Sympathy Card ~ Ink technique ~ CatScrapbooking.comTo stamp the flower I used Blossoming Expressions D1665. I put a drop of Sapphire re-inker on the All Purpose Mat.  Then using the spray pen with water I spritzed it a couple times.  Then I inked the stamp in this water ink mixture.  Then using the second stamp with the detail, I inked it with the Sapphire stamp pad.  I used the Packages, Boxes and Tags D1664 stamp set to stamp the tag.  I used the stitching line to stamp around the white cardstock.  I then used the Ink Blot D1660 stamp set, inking it in the water ink mixture then stamped on cardstock.  Here is a close up of the stamping.

Technique Blog Hop ~ Kissing is for Stamping

Welcome to the Technique Blog Hop!12654374_10153385335867934_7561329688020540845_n

This month we are featuring the Kissing Technique!  Have you heard of this technique??  Well the way it works is you ink up one stamp then take a second stamp with no ink and touch or kiss the inked stamp.  The result is a pattern on the stamp image.  If you just hopped onto my blog or arrived from WENDY KESSLER’S Blog then you are in the right place.  This blog hop is a great big circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork.

I haven not used this technique a lot but have tried it a couple of times.  Decided to make those adorable balloon animals in this months stamp of the month have a pattern.  Check it out…

Kissing Technique ~ Penelope ~ Balloon Animals ~ Celebrate ~ Artfully Sent ~ CatScrapbooking.comYou can see that the Elephant and Horse have polka-dots.  I inked up the elephant then using the cluster of dots from the Balloon Animals stamp set I randomly stamped the inked elephant stamping the dots off on a piece of scratch paper between each “kiss”.  Then once the entire elephant was random stamped, I then stamped the elephant. I repeated the process for the horse too.

To the Moon Valentine

Have you had a chance to check out the new Seasonal Expressions which was just released January 1st??? There are so many great things in there!!! I love the stamp set To the Moon B1507.  I knew when I saw this it would be great for my son and to design boy theme cards and layouts.  The first thing that come to mind was designing my own background to look like the night sky.  I LOVE the way this turned out and I am now hooked!!

To the Moon ~ Boy Valentine ~ Create your own sponged background ~ CatScrapbooking.comIf you are wondering how I created this background I will explain it now.  I started with a piece of White Daisy cardstock.  I used a punch to cut out a 1 3/4″ circle.  I used the reverse to ink my sun with Canary and Saffron.  I then took the punched circle and using a little bit of adhesive I attached the circle to mask off my sun while I sponged the sky.  I used Glacier, Crystal Blue and Sapphire inks and a sponge and began applying color.  I started with Glacier then added Crystal Blue and lastly the Sapphire.  I then used my spray pen with a combination of alcohol and White Daisy re-inker.  I like to use alcohol instead of water as it dries a bit faster.   I misted the sponged background which gave the mottled look.  I then came back with my watercolors and with a brush which was saturated with water and white paint I tapped it over cardstock creating the bright white flecks which look like stars.

Here is the full list of supplies used:

  • Cardstock ~ Ruby and White Daisy
  • Inks ~ Canary, Saffron, Glacier, Crystal Blue, Sapphire, Ruby and Momento Black

Monster Birthday Cards

I saw a birthday card posted on the Make it from Your Heart blog that I have been wanting to duplicate.  So I went to look for it on my Pinterest boards as this is where I will save things I want to go back too.  Well when I found it I realized it was from last January  ~ has it really taken me almost a year to create this card.  Well I guess better late than never?  Here is the original card and here are my versions.

Monster Birthday ~ Boy Birthday ~ Stamping techniques Kissing & Rock-n-Roll ~ Monster Birthday ~ Boy Birthday card ~ Stamping Techniques Kissing & Rock-n-Roll ~ CatScrapbooking.comThe top card uses Topiary, Sapphire and Saffron fundamental papers.  The bottom card I used Fern, and Peacock.  I used two stamping techniques to create these card.  The first was the Rock-n Roll which I used for the Happy Birthday.  I inked it in Saffron and then rolled it in Sapphire for the top card and Peacock for the bottom card.   The second technique I used is the Kissing Technique.  You can see in both cards the green balloon has a circle pattern.  Well after inking the balloon in green I touched it to a clean stamp and it removed some of the ink resulting in a pattern, then I stamped it on the card.

Christmas Cards ~ Studio J Style

Have you finished sending out your Christmas cards?  Don’t panic if you haven’t as you still have time.  I am wrapping up mine as we speak.  Last year I made over 200 cards for my husband and our personal cards.  This year the number stays the same but I turned to Studio J for the bulk of my cards.  I did still create all of the cards, but most of them were photo cards this year.  I wanted to share with you my Studio J cards as they are a fun and easy way to make cards for Holidays, Birthday invitations and Parties.

Studio J ~ Christmas Cards ~ Jingle & Mistletoe ~ CatScrapbooking.comThe way I did these is using the No Limits pattern and I designed 3 different two page layouts then just printed multiple copies.  I was able to get four of the 4 X 8″ cards on each 12×12″ layout using the Jingle paper collection.  For the Believe cards I was able to get six 4×6″ cards per layout and used the Mistletoe paper collection.

Studio J ~ Christmas Cards ~ Believe ~ Studio J Christmas Cards ~ Believe ~

These are both using the Believe paper collection.  I did change the blue polka-dot paper to the red and green by unchecking the full color under the pattern papers and selecting the color I wanted them to be.  I love this feature as it helps to give you more options.

I love the way I was able to design so many different cards some fun and some more traditional.

Fall Inspirations ~ Sangria Card Workshop

It is finally beginning to feel like fall here in Colorado.  I sure hope it stays as I love this time of year with the cooler temps.  Enough about the weather… I have been feeling fall inspirations with the Sangria paper Pack.  I have to admit I was not sure about this paper pack but having played with it I am really liking it.  The colors are fabulous as they use several of the new rich Enchantment colors ~ Poppy, Pomegranate, and Eggplant.  I used this paper pack and colors to design my October Card Workshop October 26th at 6:30 PM.  If you are in the Arvada, CO area and would like to come please email me at for more details and check availability.
