Technique Blog Hop – Bokeh Stamping

Welcome to the Technique Blog Hop!

12375999_10153309114907934_8934746437459467447_nThis month we are featuring the Bokeh Technique!  Have you seen those awesome backgrounds with the white circles which crates an out of focus look.  It is hard to describe this technique but with photographs “the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light”.  It has been adapted to crafting and this month we have 6 consultants featuring artwork using this technique.  If you just hopped onto my blog or arrived from MELISSA ROBINSON ’S Blog then you are in the right place.  This blog hop is a great big circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork.

I really love this technique and have used it a number of times.  I decided to show you the Bokeh technique with a twist ~ Paw prints.  The first thing I did is I went into Design Space and using the Heart Paw Print #m4130AD from the Artistry cartridge.  I hid the contour lines of heart leaving just the paw print.  I copied the image so there were 4 which were all different sizes.  Then creating a 4″ square I used my slice tool and created my own stencil.

Mask for Bokeh Technique ~ Pawprints ~ Artistry ~ CatScrapbooking.comThen using approximately 5.25″x 4″ pieces of White daisy I applied ink using a dubber in a random pattern.

Bokeh Technique ink application ~ CatScrapbooking.comWith the first piece I used Pixie, Hollyhock and Ruby.  I used a dauber to apply the color randomly.  Bokeh technique ink application ~ Techniques ~ CatScrapbooking.comWith this one I used Pixie, Canary and Glacier again using the dauber to apply the ink.  The next step is to apply the white ink to create the Bokeh technique.  I have a stencil with various sized circles so I started with that.  I then came back with the Paw Print Stencil to create these:Bokeh Technique with pawprints ~ CatScrapbooking.comThen I trimmed the cardstock to the appropriate sizes in this case 5″ x 3 3/4″.   I then added a sentiment and the adorable dog from Love My Dog A1178Bokeh ~ Ruby, Pixie & Hollyhock pawprints ~ Love my Dog ~ CatScrapbooking.comBokeh ~ Canary, Pixie & Glacier pawprints ~ Love my Dog ~ CatScrapbooking.comI did learn something that I wanted to share with you.  If you plan to stamp on the Bokeh pattern it does not work very well after the fact.  The white pigment ink shows through whether you us pigment or ink.  So my suggestion is emboss first then do the Bokeh technique.  To fix this I used black and silver heat embossed dogs which I fussy cut and covered my “mistake”.  It was a learning experience which is always cool but frustrating at times.  Like they day there are no mistakes in crafting only creative ways to fix :-).

Here is my list of supplies used:

Stampers with an Attitude ~ La Vie En Rose

If you are just starting here or hopping here from MELINDA EVERITT ’S Blog  then you are in the right spot.  The blog hop is a great big circle, so you can start here and work your way around.  If you get lost along the way, you can find the complete list of participating consultant at the end of my blog.

I decided to design my card after seeing this one on Pinterest.   I love designing my own designs in Design Space.  For this card I used hearts from Artbooking, Artistry and Art Philosophy.

La Vie En Rose ~ Beloved Bouquet ~ Hearts ~ CatScrapbooking.comHere is the inside of the card ~

La Vie En Rose ~ Beloved Bouquet ~ Hearts ~ Valentine's ~ CatScrapbooking.comSo to make the card base I used the three different hearts then welded them to a rectangle so I created the heart edge.  Before I welded everything I made a copy of the grouped hearts so I could cut the individual hearts to add to the base.  I really love the way this turned out.

My Layout Challenge #1

With the New Year I am sure everyone is making resolutions which we hope to keep.  I am no different… I made one crafting resolution ~ To design at least one scrapbooking layout a week.  I have a lot of photos printed so this will be great to get through the stack.  So far I am off to a good start.

The first layout I designed was a single page layout of my son’s second encounter with Santa.

Santa Layout ~ White Pines ~ one photo layout ~ catscrapbooking.comFor this layout I used White Pines paper pack and the White Pines complements which just retired 🙁 Here is a close up of the top right corner.

Santa detail ~ White Pines ~ CatScrapbooking.comSince one of the stickers is colonial white and my base page is colonial white I decided to take a brown pen to outline the ornaments and make the string they are hanging from.  I added some bling with the retired Green Glitter paper, the Sparkle Clear Assortment Z1752 and Red Enamel Gems Z3090.

I look forward to sharing more layouts with you each week.

Color Dare #175 ~ Glacier, White and Silver

Welcome to this weeks Color My Heart Color Challenge!  This week for Color Dare #175 we are featuring  GLACIER, WHITE DAISY & SILVER.

Color Dare #175When I saw these colors the first thing that came to mind was snowflakes.

Color Dare #175 ~ Glacier, Silver & White ~ Artbooking ~ Snowflakes ~ CatScrapbooking.comI used Rectangle Snowflakes #M3CF6D  from the Artbooking cartridge.  I sized it so it was 4″ high then using a basic square which I turned into a rectangle 4″ X 5.25″, I sliced the two shapes to create my 4″x5.25″ snowflake piece.  I then used Silver foil tape, Silver Glitter Paper and Glacier to back the circles and snowflakes on the card base then glued the overlay down.

Here is the full list of products used:

Now it is your turn to create! Just create a project (card, layout or other craft project) using this weeks colors.  Then link them to the Color My Heart Blog ~ Color Dare #175 or you can post them to the COLOR MY HEART FaceBook page.  For this Color Dare Challenge, you have until Thursday January 14, 2016 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time to submit your project.   We love to see your inspirations.

Fox Thank You Notes

If you have not figured it out by now I love FOXES!!! So when I saw these cute foxes with the Foxy Holiday stamp set ~I had to have it.  So here is what I created with it:

Foxy Holiday ~ Dashing through the snow ~ design your own background ~ catscrapbooking.comI loved creating my own background like I did for the rocket valentine card.  What is so cool is each card is slightly different.  Here is another one:Foxy Holiday 2 ~ Dashing Through the snow ~ Design your own background ~ catscrapbooking.comSo to crate these cool backgrounds I used Glacier, Crystal Blue and Sapphire. Using a sponge I apply the ink randomly to white cardstock. Then I mixed up a combination of rubbing alcohol with White Daisy re-inker in one of the spray pens.  I then misted the background creating the molted look.  If you notice in the second card the spray was not very even but still created a unique look.  I then used the white watercolor paint and splattered it over the top.  I also used the watercolor paint to color the tree, moon, sled and adorable fox.
