Technique Blog Hop – Bokeh Stamping

Welcome to the Technique Blog Hop!

12375999_10153309114907934_8934746437459467447_nThis month we are featuring the Bokeh Technique!  Have you seen those awesome backgrounds with the white circles which crates an out of focus look.  It is hard to describe this technique but with photographs “the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light”.  It has been adapted to crafting and this month we have 6 consultants featuring artwork using this technique.  If you just hopped onto my blog or arrived from MELISSA ROBINSON ’S Blog then you are in the right place.  This blog hop is a great big circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork.

I really love this technique and have used it a number of times.  I decided to show you the Bokeh technique with a twist ~ Paw prints.  The first thing I did is I went into Design Space and using the Heart Paw Print #m4130AD from the Artistry cartridge.  I hid the contour lines of heart leaving just the paw print.  I copied the image so there were 4 which were all different sizes.  Then creating a 4″ square I used my slice tool and created my own stencil.

Bokeh Technique ink application ~ CatScrapbooking.comWith the first piece I used Pixie, Hollyhock and Ruby.  I used a dauber to apply the color randomly.  Bokeh technique ink application ~ Techniques ~ CatScrapbooking.comWith this one I used Pixie, Canary and Glacier again using the dauber to apply the ink.  The next step is to apply the white ink to create the Bokeh technique.  I have a stencil with various sized circles so I started with that.  I then came back with the Paw Print Stencil to create these:Bokeh Technique with pawprints ~ CatScrapbooking.comThen I trimmed the cardstock to the appropriate sizes in this case 5″ x 3 3/4″.   I then added a sentiment and the adorable dog from Love My Dog A1178Bokeh ~ Ruby, Pixie & Hollyhock pawprints ~ Love my Dog ~ CatScrapbooking.comBokeh ~ Canary, Pixie & Glacier pawprints ~ Love my Dog ~ CatScrapbooking.comI did learn something that I wanted to share with you.  If you plan to stamp on the Bokeh pattern it does not work very well after the fact.  The white pigment ink shows through whether you us pigment or ink.  So my suggestion is emboss first then do the Bokeh technique.  To fix this I used black and silver heat embossed dogs which I fussy cut and covered my “mistake”.  It was a learning experience which is always cool but frustrating at times.  Like they day there are no mistakes in crafting only creative ways to fix :-).

Here is my list of supplies used:

Now hop on over to PRISCILLA GOTHAM ’S Blog and see what she has created for you today.  If you get lost along here is the full list of participants.

Happy Crafting!
