Preschool Book

My son started preschool last year only going two days a week.  The school he goes to uses Tools of the Mind as their curriculum.  I was so blown away by this program and it was great seeing the growth over the school year.  He came home most of the days with is play plan, science eyes and artwork.  I really wanted to be able to preserve this for him and keep the collection in an organized way.  So I decided to make it into a book.  The pages varied in sizes so I had to find a way to make it all work.  Since the majority of the preschool material was 5 1/5 x 8 I decide I would scan or photograph the large items and reduce them in size to make a 6 x 9 finished bound book.

Zoe ~ Artbooking ~ School ~ Catscrapbooking

I decided to use Zoe as my paper pack for the cover.  I mixed it with pomegranate and honey cardstock.  I used my Artbooking cartrige to cut the apple and photos mat. The new Jennifer’s Hand B1484 alphabet stamp set with Slate ink. I did use my black journaling pen to trace the number to make them stand out a bit.Zoe ~ School ~ catscrapbooking.comOn the inside of the cover I used his class photo and name plate from school. He would come in every morning and find the one with his name on it and then put it on a board depending on the answer to the question of the day.

Preschool book dividers -play plans ~catscrapbooking.com

The play plans are the key to getting them to start writing their names and drawing a picture of themselves.  The will also write their plan for the center they are going to.  For this divider I just wanted to use the stick figure since he started drawing a bit more of one by the end of the year. The title was cut using Artistry and stick figure is a SVG file with my Silhouette.

Preschool book ~ science eyes ~ catscrapbookingThis section did not start until the spring.  They would look at an object and describe it to their friend and then draw it.  He only brought home a few but I wanted to preserve these as well. The title was cut using Artistry and microscope and atom are SVG files with my Silhouette.Preschool book ~ artwork ~ catscrapbooking.com

This was the last section and since most of the artwork was small or too big I just photographed it all and will include a photo of the pieces along with a few of the original artwork.  The title was cut using Artistry and the pallet and brush are SVG files with my Silhouette.

Fireman Birthday Party

My son’s fourth birthday party was a huge success!!! It could not have worked our any better than it did, and most importantly he LOVED it.   He had about 11 friends plus a few siblings and the Arvada Fire Station number 7 send over a pumper engine so when the kids arrived they were greeted by three awesome fire fighters!!! I created a few games which I saw on Pinterest and my son even helped with them.

First game was Flame Bean Bag Toss:

Bean Bag Flame Toss ~ Fireman Birthday ~ catscrapbooking.com

To make this game I used a 20″X30″ sheet of foam core board. Cut three circles then painted with acrylic paint.  I made the bean bags with some gingham fabric and filled with small white beans.

Fire Hydrant Ring Toss ~ Fireman Birthday ~ Catscrapbooking.comI created the fire hydrant ring toss by taking a large oatmeal container as the main base.  The top is a bowl I purchased as a set at the dollar store.  The two arms are toilet paper rolls which were cut in half.  the fronts are spools from ribbons with bottle tops from waters.  The top of the fire hydrant is a spool on the right and a top to a vitamin container on left. I then spay painted the whole thing in red. I used foam insulation from the hardware store to make the rings.Fire Truck Races ~ Fireman Birthday ~ CatScrapbooking.comI created two fire trucks from boxes I picked up at Costco.  The only issue was I had to close in one of the sides.  I then spray painted them red.  The tires and head lights are plates. The siren lights are cups.  The ladder and windshield are poster board.  I used a bit of ribbon to work as a strap enabling them to wear the fire trucks.Fire Truck ~ Fireman Birthday ~ CatScrapbooking.com

Here is the birthday boy having fun playing in the fire truck.

Fire Truck Birthday Cake ~ Fireman Birthday ~ CatScrapbooking.comHere is the cake I created based off a Betty Crocker tutorial.  I also made cupcakes and swirled the frosting in yellow, orange and red to look like flames.

Fireman Thank you gifts ~ catscrapbooking.com

These were the treat bags for the kids. The fire fighter tag was cut using a SVG with my Silhouette.  I designed two last cards to go along with this party one was for my son on his birthday and the others are thank you cards for all the gifts.

Technique Blog Hop ~ Watercolors

Welcome to the Technique Blog Hop!

11933423_10153099414082934_5873071183292397524_nThis month we are featuring the technique of ~ WATERCOLORING!  Close to My Heart has just rolled out this awesome line of watercolor products ~ Watercorlor Paint and Watercolor Brushes can be found on page 148 and the watercorlor paper is found on page 147 of the new Annual Inspirations Idea book.  Watercoloring is so cool it can be simple or as elaborate as you want it to be.  It is a great way to create custom backgrounds and adding a touch of color to you cards, scrapbook pages or any of your paper crafts. This month we have 8 consultants featuring artwork using this technique so you will definitely be inspired.  If you just hopped onto my blog or arrived from MELISSA ROBINSON ’S Blog then you are in the right place.  This blog hop is a great big circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork incorporating this technique.

I had a lot of fun trying some new techniques with the watercorlors.  I designed two cards both of them are based around this months Stamp of the Month ~ Paper Garden S1509.

11707989_10207393099531945_1646831179381493893_oHere is my first card.

Paper Garden ~ #watercoloryourworld ~ #ctmhHelloLife ~ CatScrapbooking.comThis card was totally new for me as I have never tried anything like this before.  I started by stamping one of the flower images from this months SOTM Paper Garden on our new watercolor paper in whisper ink.  I then came back and watercolored over the image and the background.  After it had dried (I hurried things along by using my craft heater) I took my journaling pen and outlined the image.  At that point the black journal pen looked really hard so I decided to use my White Daisy re-inker with some water in a spray pens.  I sprayed this mixture over the image, which really helped to soften the image.

Here is the other card I created~Paper Garden ~ #watercoloryourworld ~ Watercolor ~ CatScrapbooking.comFor this card I used a watercolor resist.  I stamped the Paper Garden image with the VersaMark and then used white embossing powder to heat emboss. I then used the watercolors to create the background.

List of products used for both cards:

Now hop on over to AGGIE PETERS’ Blog and see what she has created for you to day.  If you get lost along here is the full list of participants.
