ABC’s Blog Hop ~ K

ABC's Blog Hop

Welcome to the Everything ABC’s Blog Hop!

If you came from LINDA’S Blog ~ SCRAPPY THERAPY  then you’re on the right track!

Spring time in Spokane WA means lots of wind which means good kite flying.  I have been trying to get my son to hold on to the kite long enough for me to take a few photos to scrapbook but that has yet to happen.  He will hold the kite for a couple of seconds then let it go and watches mommy chase after the kite.  So even thought I can’t scrapbook kite flying I created a fun kite card for my “K” element.

Windy Days ~ catscrapbooking.comThe kit was easy to create by taking a square and folding it to look like a kite.  I used the Windy Day stamp set for the cloud and sentiment.

Supplies used for this card:

  • Windy Day stamp set
  • Ink ~ Sky
  • Cardstock ~ Cashmere, Colonial white
  • Paper Pack ~ Balloon Ride
  • Bakers twine

More Lollydoodle…

I know you may think Easter is behind us but I have been wanting to finish one more Easter layout.  I finally had the chance this past week, so I could finish 2012’s Easter festivities.   Since I designed the Easter Day layout with Lollydoodle I figured it would only be fitting that the MOMS Club Easter Egg Hunt should be done in the same paper.

Egg Hunt

I have to say that this is one of my favorite paper packs from this Idea Book.  Make sure you get yours if you have not  already as they may run out before this Idea Book ends in July 31st.

Love you to the Moon and Back

I so love this months stamp of the month!  If you have not seen it here it is…

May 2014 SOTM

It has some awesome sentiments which can be used in cards or scrapbooking.  I just celebrated my 14th wedding anniversary and thought it would be fun to do a card using the “I Love You to the Moon and Back” sentiment.  Here is my card I designed.

May SOTM -catscrapbooking.com

To create the multi-colors on the stamped image I used my pigment inks and using daubers and Q-tips I was able to apply the colors I wanted to the specific areas.  I used Slate, Buttercup, Outdoor Denim and Sky.   The patten paper is a retired one, Hero.  I used Buttercup, Sky and Daisy White cardstock.  To add some bling I added silver shimmer trim, bitty sparkles, some retired sparkles and the Blue epoxy Gems.

Be sure you get your stamp of the month before this month is over.  With any qualifying $50 purchase you can get this awesome stamp set for only $5.  Plus you can take advantage of this months National Scrapbooking paper pack “Free to Be Me” for $5 with that same $50 qualifying purchase.  Talk about a deal!!!!

ABC’s Blog Hop ~ J

ABC's Blog Hop

Welcome to the Everything ABC’s Blog Hop!

For this hop we will be featuring the letter “J”.  This may be the name of a paper, a stamp set or an embellishment.  Whatever the crafter has chosen as their “J” element will be featured in their post.

If you have just hopped onto my blog, please start at the beginning at LINDA’S BLOG ~ SCRAPPY THERAPY

If you came from LINDA’S Blog ~ SCRAPPY THERAPY  then you’re on the right track!

When I was thinking of what I was going to focus on as my letter “J”  the first thing that popped into my mind was Close to My Hearts Jute ribbon.  I had just used it recently for the first time, so I wanted to play with it again.  I also was thinking about colors to use and since Juniper is a “J”, I would coordinate with it.  Here is the card I created using this months wonderful stamp of the Month.

You're Got a FriendFor this card I used my pigment inks as they can be applied with sponge daubers to specific areas of your stamp so you can ink with different colors and stamp just once.  I also discovered you can use a Q-tip to apply the pigment ink to smaller details which will work great particularly if you don’t have sponge daubers.  This is how I achieved the two colors on my stamped image; I did go back over the inner part of the leaf with the Q-tip I was using to color in the leaf.  I used my silhouette to cut out the apples; I added a  little more interest by useng a Copic marker to color the stem.  Another tip I have for you is when you are working with the Jute Ribbon it does tend to unravel on the ends.  To stop this just apply some Liquid Glass in a strip about 1/4 inch or so at the end and then where you plan to cut.  This strip will be perpendicular to the ribbon.  By doing this it will help keep the ends in tact and keep them from unraveling.  I will then go back and cut through the 1/4 inch strip in the middle just before it completely hardens.

Be sure to take advantage of this May’s adorable Stamp of the Month, with any qualifiying $50 order you can purchase this stamp set for only $5!!!  This is a $17.95 stamp set you will get for only $5.

May 2014 SOTM

For this card I used the following products:

  • Skylark paper pack X7177B
  • Kraft cardstock Z1375
  • Juniper cardstock  X5752
  • Cranberry cardstock 1272
  • Colonial White cardstock 1388
  • Jute Ribbon Z1867

Picture my Life ~ Later Sk8r

This garage sale has just about consumed all my time and zapped my brain – or is that my 2 1/2 year old.  Anyway sorry for the error with my previous post about Picture My Life.  I had started it then got pulled away and never got to go back and finish.  So here is take two…  I will be so glad once I make it to Saturday and this garage sale is over.

I have to be honest in saying I was not sure if I would like the Picture My Life style of scrapbooking.  I know a lot of people really like it so I figured it was time to give it a try.  It was simple choosing my cards to use even though there were 48 different designs.  I then picked my photos and assembled.  Being a traditional scrapbooker the hardest thing for me to adjust to was the cards are sufficient to stand on their own.  What I mean is there is not a need to add a lot of additional embellishments.  I did add a few with the Later Sk8r stickerease and some of the Blue and Green Epoxy Bubble.

Later Sk8er PML 1 ~catscrapbooking.com

The bottom left card is the one I embellished.

Later Sk8er PML 2 ~catscrapbooking.com

For this layout the only card I embellished was also the bottom left card.

Later Sk8er PML 3 ~catscrapbooking.com

With this layout I did not add anything to the layout.

Later Sk8er PML 4 ~catscrapbooking.com

And with this final layout I added a couple stickerease to the bottom middle card.  It was really easy to complete 4 layout once I let go of the fact I did not need to over embellish 🙂  I have to admit I liked using the Picture My Life collection!

There are eight different collections – Later Sk8r, Chantilly, Laughing Lola, Avonlea, Babycakes, Surf’s Up, Skylark, and Balloon Ride.   The collections are $24.95 and include the following:

44 – 4″ × 6″ Cards (2 each of 22 designs)
78 – 3″ × 4″ Cards (3 each of 26 designs)
1 – 12″ × 12″ Designed Cover Sheet
10 – 12″ × 12″ Memory Protectors™ (various designs)

I forgot how much fun it is to work with velum, it adds just an added touch of texture.  It is also great to use for journaling as it is a subtle way to add your words with out becoming an overwhelming feature.

Father’s Day Frame

Okay, I am taking another little break from my major undertaking of house cleaning for our garage sale.  I have basically completed my craft room, all the baby stuff and the kitchen.   I now only have a few more rooms to go….

Since Father’s day is going to be sneaking up on us pretty quickly I actually got a jump on things this year.  I had purchased the Sizzix accordion frame back in November and of course it has just sat on the shelf.  I decided it was time to use it or lose it so to speak.  I realized it would work very well as a Father’s Day gift.

Father's day frame front ~catscrapbooking.com

This is what it will look like when you give it to your father.  You will pull the twine on the right side and it will open to be a cool stand alone element which will fit a 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 inch photo.  You dad/father can then proudly display this on their desk.

Father's day frame ~catscrapbooking.com

Here is a close up of two of the panels to show the stamping which crated a unique patten paper.

Father's day frame detail

To create this look I used the tools from the You’re the Best stamp set C1571 and used second generation stamping with Chocolate ink on Colonial white paper.  If you have never heard of second generation stamping what you do is ink up you stamp like you would normally do then stamp it the first time on a scratch sheet of paper and then stamp it a second time on your actual paper.   The effect is a softer more subtle stamped image.

For this project I used my Silhouette to cut the majority of the images.  I did use the Cricut to cut the banners on the cover.

Products used for this project:

  • Timberline paper pack X1782B
  • Twilight cardstock X5666
  • Colonial White cardstock 1388
  • Chocolate cardstock  X5643
  • Brown and Tan Glitter Paper Z1830
  • Chocolate Ink Z2111
  • Twilight Ink Z2160
  • You’re the Best Stamp set C1571
  • Baker’s twine
  • Brown twine (my stash)

Okay back to my Spring Cleaning….

Timberline Layout

Wow, May is starting out as a very busy month for me.  We have decided to have a garage sale this month to let a few things go.  I decided it was time to really clean out my craft room and let things go.  Well who would have thought it would take me a week and a half??? I guess I should not be surprised since I only get a couple hours when my son naps and then an hour or two in the evenings.  Well I can honestly say the end is in sight and that is why I am finally getting back to posting.  Or at least I hope I am…

This month my workshops are going to be centered around the Timberline paper pack.Timberline paper pack

This paper pack is great for outdoor activities such as camping, hiking or just in you backyard.  Our family is not into camping but will likely be there soon but we do love to go on hikes.  Here is the layout I designed for my Scrapbook Workshop for May.

Timberline layout ~ catscrapbooking.com

Here it is with my photos.

Timberline layout with photos ~ catscrapbooking.co

I used all three CTMH Cricut cartridges to cut some of the details.   My favorite details are the Timberline wood assortment as they add so much character to the layout.  Here is a close up of some of the details.  My other favorite is the Do Your Best Stamp set with the wolf, bobcat and bear.

For this layout I used the following Close To My Heart products:

  1. Timberline paper pack X7182B
  2. Timberline assortment Z3005
  3. Timberline WOTG stamp set G1077
  4. Brown and Tan Glitter paper Z1830
  5. Do Your Best Stamp set C1573
  6. Teal Shimmer Trim Z1918
  7. Baker’s Twine Neutral Metallic Assortment Z1921

Now I must get back to cleaning out some of the other rooms in this house…
